Wolf Whistling, Paris and Me.
There were new houses being built at the bottom my road, three of the builders decided to harass me on the way to school, I was in my school uniform and 8.30 am in the morning, at first I put my head down and ignored them and went bright red, this went on everyday, after about two weeks the dirty comments started one day the younger builder said something vile to me on the way home from school and I got really angry and told him to "Shut up", he was quite nasty back, and the next few days he kept asking me to go out with him, I told him I was 15 and in school. When I walked home from school that day at 3.45 pm all of the builders were chanting " when are you sixteen love ?" they were horrible, I had to put put up with this for three months until they got caught shouting things at me by there supervisor who told them off and they stopped.
Why should anyone, have to put up with this behavior, , If you like someone just smile and say Hi, that's fine. to be punched in the face like Marie was because she rejected him and dared to tell him off and that obviously hurt his pride and he couldn't take it.
Today France passed a law, it's now a £656 fine if you wolf whistle or sexually harass anyone in the street, I hope other countries make it law. It's not funny to sexually harass anyone, when it happened to me I felt embarrassed, annoyed, ashamed and vulnerable and I never told anyone because I thought I was a girl and had to learn to put up with it, because it was going to be part of my life.
